Mr. Parkess is the Music Teacher at SMOA (St. Mary Online Academy). Mr. Parkes has been an educator for over 25 years. He received his bachelor’s degree in music from University of Texas Arlington University and master’s degree also in Music from University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Parkess taught many music subjects to all ages of students. Not only teaching he also worked as a composer, arranger, and performer for over 10 years in USA, Germany, and Vietnam. More or less for the entire 25 years of practicing his profession, he was handling many subjects such as AP Music Theory, IB Music, Music Composition, Jazz Music, Singer-Songwriter, World Music, and Music Business for grades 9 to 12. He is very dedicated to making trusting relationships with students and inspiring them to be curious, life-long learners. Mr. Parkess makes music theory relevant to students by making connections with the music that his students listen to for their own enjoyment. By making the content accessible to his students, he has many students that have scored 4s, and 5s on the AP Music Theory Exam.
